      You can try unchecking “Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates”, while still keeping “Give me updates for other Microsoft products….” checked. This should work for you

    Hi,
    Other one for 8.1 is to use right click on start / system / advanced system settings / hardware – in system properties / device installation settings / “No, let me choose what to do” button (and one of the three other option buttons of your choice below.)

    Sometimes this works and holds and sometimes it doesn’t. Having to repeat it every time you update. Not much fun but what would anyone expect from MS famous “work in progress” projects? If it was another type of vehicle, like a car, it would have been recalled long ago? Hope this might help someone out there until MS finally, if ever repairs Take care.
